West End Girl
It’s been a while since I’ve written. An idea will come to me but if I can’t write at least 500 words I don’t post anything. I’ve been busy at my 9 to 5 and on the weekends, I just want to relax, watch TV and hang out with my family. It’s time I get back on track. I started writing this post about Lily Allen’s new album West End Girl nearly a month ago and today I’m finishing it. The album was released on October 24th and it’s so good. I’m always looking for new music because it helps me create and you can only listen to so much Justin Timberlake, Eric Benet, Vic Mensa and the various playlists I have created for myself.
If you’ve been reading my blog regularly you know by now how much I love the Brits. Lily Allen’s new album is about heartbreak and a seedy sex addiction inspired by the demise of her open marriage to David Harbour. I was a fan since she did that feature on Common’s song Drivin’ Me Wild from 2007. I love that song. Finding Forever is one of my favorite hip hop albums of all time. Brings back lots of memories.
The timing of the release of this album couldn’t be more perfect. The final season of Stranger Things drops on November 26th and her ex plays Hopper. I looked up her streams and West End Girl, has accumulated over 26.6 billion streams on Spotify as of this month. I’m sure the fact that David Harbour plays a character on Netflix’s biggest show makes it a bit more interesting. I know it’s more interesting to me knowing who these songs are about. Why do we love being all up in people’s business? I’m all in the mix like What? For real? She’s so talented. Although he’s not someone I’d really be attracted to there is something about him. The first season of Stranger Things I thought he had some sort of swag, and I love Hopper, but their marriage sounds like it was wild.
You really have to be careful in your relationships with writers and songwriters because your business will be all in the streets. In many instances the reader or listener doesn’t know who the subject of your material is, but when it goes public and it’s juicy information, it blows up. There were people on David Harbour’s Instagram page asking, who’s Madeline based on a couple tracks off the album. Dude is not even very active on Instagram, and he had to turn off his comments. I tell it all through writing and clearly so does she. You better treat your partner right or she’s going to tell it all.
I remember when I started my blog back in 2021 and the guy, I was dating was worried about me writing about him. He had reason to worry. I told it all. I told way too much. I should have been embarrassed but I’m never embarrassed. I just speak the truth no matter how ugly or humiliating it may be.
If you haven’t checked out Lily Allen’s West End Girl, I highly recommend it, especially if you like to be all up in people’s business. She has a song on the album with a title I’d rather not post but it’s track 7. Once you hear it you will understand why it gained so much popularity so quickly and yes, the music is just good.
