Simplicity

The biggest thing I learned from Mr. Robot is simplicity. Elliot didn’t care about money or material things. He lived in a very modest apartment in a bad neighborhood in New York City. He didn’t have a car, nor a wardrobe or a variety of shoes. He was a hacker but never stole to line his pockets.

I do live a simple life. I live in a very modest efficiency apartment but it’s in an upscale neighborhood. I don’t have a car, I don’t even have a bed, I sleep on the couch, which is a futon that will no longer go down into a full-size bed. I will tell you what I do have, a nice wardrobe. Why, you might ask I don’t go anywhere, nor do I spend time with anyone. I’ll tell you why I saw an ad pop up on Instagram with this sweater I now had to have. It’s still summer so why exactly must I have this pricey sweater from goop.com. You’ve probably never heard of goop, but it’s Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle brand. This is how they get me, ads on social media. I went to the website to take a closer look at the sweater and found this gorgeous soft goat cable-knit crewneck sweater, and it was the last one. I had to have it. It’s a large but I do require a bigger size from this brand so it should be perfect, plus I gained seven pounds. I did lose one-pound last month, but I haven’t been very disciplined so far this month.

Anyway, I got off topic. We’re talking about simplicity not my proclivity for high fashion. I will tell you what I’m going to stop wasting money on DoorDash. Since I don’t have a car, I order A LOT! It’s one thing to order groceries but not all the other garbage I order like Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers. The chicken fingers are good but the meal I get is one thousand calories, an even more important reason not to order the food.  Now I started writing this before I saw the sweater on goop.com. my plan was to stop shopping for myself. I’m moving into a bigger apartment next year, and my rent will be at least $600 more than what I’m currently paying but I do need a bit more space.

This is my tiny apartment minus the furniture.

I was planning a trip to London next year, but I think I’m going to put that off. I really want to save money for my new place. I’ll need new furniture so it’s imperative that I save money. I don’t think I’m going to travel at all next year. I’m just going to focus on saving money and living a simple life.

I used to want to be a multi-millionaire, but why? I just want a nice condo or townhome in my neighborhood. It won’t be cheap, so I do need to earn a nice wage, but my plan is already in motion. I’ve made some recent moves that should accelerate my plan. I’ve got to make an investment in myself and my very attainable dream.
